The Beginning of eKurs – A Solution Born from Need
eKurs was created in 2012 when Korsholm Adult Education Centre needed a system that would meet their requirements for course management. No suitable system was available on the market, so the institution decided to take matters into their own hands and asked Creamarketing to build one. Creamarketing accepted the challenge and began developing a course management system tailored to the needs of Korsholm Adult Education Centre.
In collaboration, a system was created that not only enabled course registration but also provided comprehensive course and enrollment management, as well as payroll functionality, personal accounts, and extensive reporting. After this, several other institutions joined in, and eKurs quickly grew into a daily tool for educational institutions – a customizable system that adapts to each customer’s individual needs.

eKurs – A Comprehensive Solution for the Everyday Life of Educational Institutions
eKurs is designed as a daily tool for administrative staff in educational institutions. It brings together course, teacher, and student management, as well as other key functions needed in everyday operations. eKurs not only helps manage courses but also enables both teachers and students to manage their own courses in a comprehensive way.
In addition to course management, institutions also receive their own website, where they can register for courses, present courses and the institution, and share up-to-date information with teachers and students. eKurs is therefore more than just a course registration system – it provides everything needed to manage an institution’s daily operations and is now used by dozens of educational institutions across Finland.
“For many years, I have had close cooperation with Finnish adult education and liberal education institutes – and one thing has always been clear: there is a real need for tools that make everyday life easier, are functional, and user-friendly. From this need, eKurs was born – a course management and registration system that is today used by dozens of educational institutions across Finland.”

eKurs3 – The Next Step in the Development of eKurs
eKurs has been developed in several stages. The system grew rapidly after its initial release when more institutions started adopting it. This created a need to handle larger volumes of data, leading to eKurs2 – a responsive, modern, and more extensive administrative solution.
As growth continued, a major upgrade project was carried out in 2024, resulting in eKurs3 – a more performant, more secure, and more modern solution. The new system significantly reduces server load, speeds up page loading, and eliminates the congestion peaks that previously occurred during course registration launches – improving the user experience for both customers and administrators.
Data security has been elevated to a new level to meet modern requirements, and all personal data is securely processed on servers located in Vaasa in compliance with GDPR. The headless architecture brings flexibility, scalability, and improved performance, resulting in a smoother user experience for students, teachers, and administrators.
eKurs3 is a carefully designed and long-term developed solution that meets both current and future needs. The release schedule was adjusted during development to ensure high quality, making a successful upgrade possible.

Continuous Development Based on the Needs of Educational Institutions
eKurs is a system designed for the needs of educational institutions, and it is important to stay up to date with changes in legislation and data security. The eKurs team monitors these changes and develops the system accordingly.
“eKurs is a tool used around the clock, which means it must be reliable 24/7. It should be part of the customer’s everyday life – secure, stable, and functional.”
– Tina Storsjö, Project Manager, Creamarketing
In addition to regulatory updates, development is based on the needs and wishes of the institutions. eKurs is a system whose direction is guided by its users, and institutions play a key role in defining how the system should function and what they need to make their work easier. Institutions define the needs – Creamarketing implements the solutions.
“We work very closely with our customers, as they guide which updates are made to eKurs. Our relationship with customers is more of a partnership than a traditional client relationship – we function as one team when developing eKurs.”
– Tom Yrjas, Lead Developer, Creamarketing
eKurs is now and always for educational institutions – and it continues to evolve with them.
